Bodily Injury
Bodily injury is a type of insurance that covers the money needed for an injury to a person’s body. This does not include damage to the cars or other property like a phone or laptop in the car that was involved in the crash. This damage would fall under insurance called Property Damage.
Most states require a driver of a car to have a minimum amount of bodily injury insurance coverage.
For example, in Nevada, a driver is required to have an insurance policy of 25,000/50,000. This means that a driver must have insurance that would pay $25,000 to a single person that is injured in a crash caused by the driver. It also means that a driver must have insurance that would pay up to $50,000 to all of the victims in total for all the injuries caused by a driver’s crash.
It should be noted that bodily injury is also used in criminal court cases to refer to the injury caused by a person’s crime. If you are involved in a criminal case, we urge you to reach out to an experienced criminal defense lawyer. Our attorneys can help you evaluate all of your claims and provide you with a referral if you need one.

Personal Injury
Personal injury is any injury to a person, property, or thing. This includes simple vandalism to a car or the side of a building. It also includes things like burning down someone’s house or car crashes. Personal injury can go beyond the individual person.
Sometimes a personal injury is covered under another driver’s bodily injury insurance policy. But, at other times, this is not the case. Knowing when an injury is covered under a driver’s insurance claim is part of our specialty at Van Law Firm.
