Since 2019, more than 2,000 Stryker hip replacement lawsuits have been filed in both federal and state courts. The year before, Stryker company consented to a confidential resolution of lawsuits involving the company’s LFIT V40 Femoral Head. Additionally, in 2014, the company compensated victims with $2 billion to resolve Rejuvenate and ABG II hip lawsuits. Currently, lawyers are researching adverse medical complications associated with Stryker’s Tritanium Acetabular Shells. 

Lawsuits initiated by victims argued that Stryker manufactured defective implants which led recipients to experience medical conditions that led to great pain and required subsequent surgery. These claims allege that metallic components in the implants disperse metal ions throughout the body which can damage tissue as well as cause other complications. These lawsuits involve six types of Stryker hip replacements, but three types (Rejuvenate, ABG II, and LFIT Anatomic CoCr V40) have already been part of federal litigation.

In 2012, Stryker recalled around 44,000 Rejuvenate and 9,000 ABG II implants. Then in 2014, the Stryker company agreed to pay over $1 billion to settle a large number of cases. Two years later, the settlement was extended to include more patients. On average, the company paid around $600,000 for a hip implant that had led a patient to face medical complications. Stryker initially expected all settlements to resolve by the conclusion of 2017, but several years later there were still over a thousand associated lawsuits pending in federal court due to ABG II and Rejuvenate litigation.

• One woman received an Accolade TMZF and LFIT Anatomic V40 Femoral Head in 2009. After the hip replacement surgery, blood tests showed high amounts of metal in her body. The woman later received surgery to remove the device. The woman filed a lawsuit against Stryker in 2014. 
• Another man pursued legal action against Stryker after he received a subsequent surgery after receiving a hip replacement. The man reported that he was unable to sit for long periods and had difficulty getting out of his car.
