Whenever disaster strikes, children are almost always among the most vulnerable. The most recent example of this has been the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine–ever since Russian forces began attacking the country on February 24, 2022, over a million Ukrainians have been displaced, and many more have been wounded or killed.

This massive exodus has been especially hard on families with young children, as proper resources and necessities have been extremely limited due to the ongoing invasion. In one tragic instance, 3 people were killed and dozens more were injured after a maternity hospital was bombed in the city of Mariupol.
