Tragic North Las Vegas Crash Leaves 9 Dead, Multiple Injured
Unsafe driving affects everyone on the road, and sometimes this can manifest in unbelievably tragic fashion. Unfortunately, the North Las Vegas community knows this all too well after a massive six-car crash left nine dead and injured six others at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 29th.
The crash took place at the intersection of Commerce Street and Cheyenne Avenue–according to reports, a Dodge Challenger was traveling at over 100 MPH when it blew through the intersection, causing massive amounts of damage to five nearby vehicles waiting at the light. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Of the nine total fatalities, seven were family members traveling in one vehicle, and the driver of the Challenger and their passenger were also pronounced dead at the scene. Police said that the ages of the deceased ranged from middle-aged adults to a child just 5 years old.
Alexander Cuevas, a police spokesman, called the accident “a chaotic event,” and noted that he “had not seen a mass casualty traffic collision like this before.”
This incident is a troubling sign for Nevadans, as road fatalities continue to increase. Unfortunately, there were 382 Nevada traffic deaths in 2021, which was the most in 15 years and nearly 20 percent higher than 2020’s figures.
