Search Engine Optimization and AI Bots
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the pillar for all content creators and marketing professionals. This concept and algorithm are used to gain traction on all content. SEO has two primary uses: to ensure that creator content is seen and to filter out spam content.
The primary use of SEO is for developing content for the Google search engine. Google built an algorithm tailored to SEO in order to properly filter and display content on their search pages.

What Is SEO?
SEO is how Google ranks the content that can be discovered on its search engine. SEO is an algorithm with set guidelines and principles that help determine where content should rank on the search page. The purpose of SEO is to filter out spam while pushing quality content to users.
Both of these purposes are covered using the same principles of SEO. To be considered optimized, the Google search algorithm looks for content that is rich, informative, and useful. There are ways to get downgraded for SEO content within the SEO score as well.
You can be “dinged” for content that is repetitive, plagiarized, or may not be long enough to get out of the realm of potential spam. The key is to use other sources of content as guides and inspiration but ensure you are drafting your own posts in your own words.

Does Using a Chatbot Affect My SEO Score?
A chatbot such as ChatGPT, Quillbot, Copy.ai, or even Google Bardd will not affect the SEO score by itself. Google has changed its stance on content and stated they do not care where the content comes from, but rather whether the content is useful.
Now, when using these tools it is important to understand they are just tools. They are there to minimize your workload and help elevate your content, not perform the entire task for you.
These tools should be used for ideas, keyword searching, and other tasks that may not directly be tied to drafting. They can assist in your draft by giving you pieces of text or finding ways to rewrite a portion of your content. Whenever you use a chatbot to draft though, you HAVE to double-check the work, as the bot can sometimes make mistakes.
So What Should I Do?
First, use the chatbot to come up with your ideas. If you’re writing a blog about a particular topic, ask ChatGPT for ideas or titles for that topic. Next, the chatbot can help you find relevant search terms which will help make your content appear higher on a Google query.
Once you have the terms, start drafting your content and have ChatGPT or Quillbot rewrite portions you think could be improved. Even if you don’t use what the bot outputs, it can foster new ideas or topics you didn’t even have before.
A neat way to tackle this could even be to ask ChatGPT to write an article and then structure your article similar to how the bot drafted one for you. Never just copy and paste the article and consider that a finished product, as there may be mistakes within or even misinformation.

Can You Do More?
More can always be accomplished, especially as the market develops and new ways to use these tools are found. One way is to include the AI in your process, not make it the process. Now this differs from the above references as there you are using it as a tool, but here it is generating another form of content.
For example, one creator performs a podcast over video and has a video podcast, an audio-only podcast, and a transcription of the podcast for readers. The creator then pastes the transcript into an AI tool and tells it to generate blog posts from within this transcript.
Here, the AI tool isn’t creating new content from scratch but rather creating new content from already existing content. This is similar to asking the chatbot to write an article about a book or movie that already exists. This can lead to fewer mistakes and pieces of misinformation and creates a content stream you weren’t already producing.
